The rear facing trend continues
In the Autumn edition of their independent child car seat test, the German organisations ADAC/Stiftung Warentest tested the BeSafe iZi Kid X3 i-Size. With an overall score of Good (1,8) and the outstanding safety score of Very Good (1,1), iZi Kid X3 i-Size continues the unpreceded safety-legacy of this rear facing-only child seat model.
In 2016, ADAC/Stiftung Warentest already awarded the historic safety score of 1,1 to the iZi Kid X2 i-Size (read more about the 2016 test). Three years later, the newest version of this child car seat model – the iZi Kid X3 i-Size – is tested and confirms the continued strong safety performance of this rear facing only seat.
How do the new features of iZi Kid X3 i-Size impact the test performance?
With the introduction of the iZi Kid X3 i-Size in Spring 2019, we added two new features to this seat: an improved attaching mechanism of SIP+ (the additional side impact protection) and a softer body hugger that gives especially younger children added comfort and support in the seat.
These features do not have an impact on the seat’s performance in laboratory settings but are in real-life making daily journeys more comfortable for children. It also makes the handling of the seat easier for parents. That is why the continued great test performance of iZi Kid X3 i-Size may not come as a surprise, but is of course again a great confirmation for the years of safety-experience that have gone into the development of this seat model.
The iZi Kid car seat model has been refined over many years. With its first introduction back in 2010 it actually was the very first car seat ever that passed the Swedish Plus Test. In 2014 the iZi Kid i-Size became one of the first i-Size approved car seats on the market, and iZi Kid X2 i-Size was one of the first seats that had an added side impact protection feature – something that has since been recreated by most brands in the market.
Strong safety performance confirms a growing trend towards rear facing child car seats
At BeSafe, we have understood the importance and advantage of rear facing travels for children up to at least the age of four already 30 years ago. In 1989, we developed our first rear facing child car seat and have been promoting and educating about the benefits of extended rear facing travels ever since.
Already in the ADAC/Stiftung Warentest car seat test in Spring 2019, the inclusion of our rear facing-only seat iZi Modular RF i-Size four years after its launch has sent strong signals about the growing importance of rear facing seats in the market.
To continue this trend, we are very happy to see the superior safety performance of rear facing child car seats like the iZi Kid X3 i-Size confirmed in independent tests, and are hopeful that this will continue bringing a wider acceptance and understanding of rear facing travels across markets worldwide.
